  3. <hi style=afpcap>Lockheed developed a penetration fighter design during 1946 with the designation F-90. The design was experimental with just two aircraft being constructed. The prototype made its first flight in June 1949. The aircraft has obvious features which were subsequently incorporated into the F-104 Starfighter.</hi>
